A MYSTERIOUS CASE

An air of mystery still surrounds tho circumstances of the death of Edward Marshall (known as Ed Caton), and Mary Anne Norman, whose bodies were found in a j'oom in No. 18, Walter Street on Monday evening last. Dr A. McArthur, coroner, opened an inquiry into the matter to-day. Senior-Sergeant Rutledge conducted the proceedings on- behalf of the police. Last Saturday afternoon h appeared that Marshall anrl Nornn l ' shifted into the house. Tho woman was married, but had separated fiou. her husband, who had been away for al)ou J ; four years. She had been living Avith Marshall, who was a seaman, practically since tho time her husband left I"".

William Walter Crump, son-in-la .v of Mr;: Norman, visited the house about half-past 8 o'clock last Monday evening, and getting 110 response to his knocks, 110 entered by a side door. Tho furniture ho found had not- been unpacked. Going into a bedroom he saw the body of a man lying on the floor. He reported the occurrence to Sergeant McCrorie, who with Crump, went to the house and discovered tho dead body of the woman lying on a bed. Medical evidence failed to show the cause of death, and the inquest was adjourned to allow of an analysis of tho contents of the stomach.
