WINTER LECTURES.
A correspondent in this issue draw* attention to the absence from the social lifo of New Zealand of the scientific lecturer who is so much in evidence in the Motherland. We agree with him that it is time that some steps were taken to remedy the deficiency. The New Zealand Institute might, with advantage, take the matter up. The people of this Dominion are thoroughly conversant with the intricacies of all forms of sport. They can provide champions in almost every branch'. But when
it comes .to tlio realities of life, to tlic things that matter, they are hopelessly boatcn. Jf scientific lectures could be initiated and made attractive, there would toon be a distinct improvement in the mental calibre of the community. We commend the suggestion to those who have, a true regard for the future- «f {his great Dominion.
