MASTERTON.—THURSDAY.

(Before Mr L. G. Reid, S.M.) | CLAIM AND COUNTER-CLAIM. Stephen Connell claimed from James and Mary Agnes Hourigan the sum of £B4 18s 7d for labour and material advanced. There was a coun-ter-claim for £B9. The defendants Hourigan admitted amounts in the ] claim totalling £53 15s Id, and sums amounting to £5 lis Avere admitted in defendants' counter-claim by plaintiff. Mr P. L. Hollings appearing for plaintiff, and Mr I). K. Logan for defendant. Stephen Connell, plaintiff, gave eA'idence as to the charges made in his claim. He contended that several charges in the counter-claim Avere excessive. He admitted some claims, and he also disputed other claims. He had not approached or been 'approached by Mr Thomas Cooper, in regard to the putting of certain sheep in a paddock leased by Avitness. John Connell stated that he had done l£ days discing for defendants on behalf of plaintiff. This concluded the case for the plaintiff. For the defence Thomas Cooper, salesman, stated that he had approached Mr S. Connell about the grazing of a certain' paddock leased by Connell. The latter had stated that Avitness could see Mrs Hourigan about the grazing, and did not mind Mrs Hourigan having the money paid for the grazing of sheep. He made arrangements Avitli Mrs Hourigan. Mary Agnes Hourigan said that plaintiff had mover spoken to her in connection with the grazing. There was only 2r} days discing done . She charged £1 a Aveek for the .board of her son, avlio Avas in the employ of plaintiff, and 6s per day (five meals and bed) for the board and lodging of another man working for plaintiff. James Hourigan, junr., gave CA ridence as to the plaintiff hiring horses. Denis Hourigan gaA'C evidence as to plaintiff bornnvihg spiders and chains. After hearing further evidence. Id's Worship reserved judgment until this morning. ,
