NATIVE REPRESENTATION.

The Prime Minister, in answer to a question, stated that it was wot intended to introduce legislation to do away with the special representation of the Maori race in Parliament. ' the reason for this answer probably was that a:x election is not immediately pending, and there is no necessity to deal .with the question this session. The time is not far distant, however, when the matter will have to be faced. The representation of the Native race at the present time is quite anomalous. The South Island member, for instance represents only a handful cf Natives! while there is no community of interest whatever in the representation of tlie Northern tribey.
