FRUIT-GROWING.
•it is-, very gratifiyng to not e that orchardists in tin's and other parts of the Dominion are recognising tho importance of conducting their operations on approved modern lines.'- The Agricultural Department is rendering 'excellent service in sending qualified instructors round the country, and the advice givea is' usually Vf a valuable character. The demonstration given by Mr Stratford yesterday was most- instructive, and tho pity is that it was not witnessed by a larger githe'ring. Somehow or another,' the Department has a habit of bungling things. In connection with Mr Strat" ford'* visit no official intimation was given of the time or place ;it which the demonstration was to take place. The result Avas that many interested persons were denied the opportunity of witnessing it. When officials of the Department are gent to districts to instruct the public,.their movements should most certainly bo advertised in the usual way.
