DISTRICT NEWS

[From Our Ou,n CarretpondmL]

ALFREDTON. Although July was such a wet month, stock weathered it remarkably well right through the district. We have August yet to contend with, but the general condition of the stock does not cause the farmers any anxiety, and tlicy are confidently looking forward to a record season.. Lambf ing 3ias already started', but will not be general until nearly the end cf tli« month. No trace has yet been discovered of John Richardson, who has been missing mow for about three weeks. Searchparties . have scoured th c creeks and other likely places but without "avail. The disappearance was a very strange! one, and it is considered tint tliopolice have been somewhat lax over the matter. Last Saturday an Alfredton district football team journeyed to Ttongomai, and met and defeated the Rongomai fifteen by eleven points to nil. Harman (2) and P. Wilton secured tries for Alfredton, and Keane converted one. Mr J. Oweni controlfed the game, and gave every satisfaction.

Oomnpratively little damage has so far been done by slips this winter. The main roads are in excellent condition, especially the Alfredton ton-Exetahui'.m lengtii. If a few protection railings are not soon erected in several places on Dunderdale's'Hill, along the above road, a serious acci(Jo'tt may be expected.
