THE LICENSING QUESTION.
Tt was to be expected that the 'Opposition would attack.the Ministry for having failed to bring down a Licencing Bill as a policy measure. Seeinphowever that the Housa was afforded ■m einT—tunity of expressing it* upon, the issue involved, nobody cm ! ind rorm for serious objection. There are certain questions (licensing, gnmitig, et/i.'i upon which no partv can be agreed, and upon these questions the (■Government is morally bound tft remain neutral. The action of Mr Mnescy over the licensing question permitted Opposition as well as Government members to respect- their election pledges, and for this reason it is to be commended. It is only those members of the.Opposition who place party before principle, who will take exception to the attitude of the Prime Minister in this matter.
