LAND SETTLEMENT
DISAPPOINTED SETTLERS,
fVv '! rieyrnph —Press AsMwtwn.)
Hamilton, Last Night. Considerate disappointment has been expressed at the fact that the !"te Government did not purchase the Whangarau block of some 3000 odd acres, when the opportunity was recently offered. It is common gossip that, the Lard Purchase Board visited and reported on the block, but Ith their usual conservative ideas nothing ,va.; clone.
The feeling is strong thai a enl change is needed in the constitut'.on of this Board. The purchase o{ tho Whangarau block was at the instance of Mr J. McCnvr and other farsighted and progressive settlers urged upon tho Government throng!) the then member, some seven or eight years ago, arid now it has been left to private enterprise to settle the blocks. 'I his is one of tho finest unoccupied blocks in the Waikato, ar.d it is trusted that the new owners will see the wisdom of cutting it up into sma',l areas, in which case it will be readily taken up. In fact. :it will be npnlied for tenfold, and in a few years by the efforts of hard working settlers smiling farms will replace tho present swamp which has long been a blot upon a prosperous district.
