The plaintiff in the action was Storaih Emma Armstrong, widow, of Carterton, and the defendant was OliiMeg Bowles, farmer, of Wailiak<e!ke. The plaintiff had been defendant's housekeeper up to December 31st, 1911, when he accused heas in the presentee of her children, of petty !thefts, and ordered 'her cut- of tilie house. A cotipie of dayis Mer li© repeated the allegations of theft in the 'presence of Constable Cregor. The [plaintiff claimed a sum of £5Ol damages W tfro causes cf action, and .the jury found for her, with damgaes assessed <at £IOO. ,His Honor did not tenter up judgment, but reserved the caise if ok fuirter consideration, an/} late* the defendant moved for a nonfeiiit on tilie ground that the statement® were made upon privileged occasions. His Honor has declined to nl'onsiut th© plaintiff, 'a-nd has entered lip judgment for the plaintiff in acj cordance witli the jury's award, with costs upon tooth hearing.
