TOWN BEAUTIFYING
DISCUSSED AT BOROUGH COUN-I CIL. j The question cf tree-planting in, ■Borough streets was brought up aJ ' last .night's meeting of the Masterton Borough Council. Cr Temple araked that permission be granted T)y the Council to have trees planted in ■Worksop Road and Reynolds Street. There would be no cost to the Borough, the residents 'being prepared to bear the cost. The planting would, of course, be done under the supervision' of the Borough Engineer. Cr Candy eaid that be was opposed to tree planting in the streets. He had already heard .complaints frcan residents with reference to 'Frees overhanging the footpath's too much. The drainage, said Cr Candy, was also affected by trees on the streets. Cr Donald was opposed to general tree-planting in. streets, and thought it more advisable to concentrate the tree-planting efforts in certain .spots in 'the. -Borough.
It was rfinalily decided that permission be granted to a'esidentis who desired to plant trees in their streets, ■the planting to be subject to the supervision of the Borough Engineer.
