THE NEW OPPOSITION.
Almost as interesting in its -relation to future possibilities ,as the construction of the new Ministry and the enunciation of a new policy, is the question o.f the campasution and leadership of His Majesty's 'Opposition under the altered conditions. Iu some quarters it lis isaid that an attempt is to be made to prevail upon Sir Joseph Ward to accept the leader-ship of the LiberaJI/ahour combination. This, it is said, I would be an est likely to give trouble to'iMn-. MaSSifi-y, aii-u to precipitate an. early- dissolution. On the other hand it is maintained that Sir Joseph, iis ;not sufficiently Radical to meet the views of the extremists. The, claims vdf Mir Laurenson are urged in this connection.. Probably, however, nothing will Ibe done until Mr Maysey lb rings down his policy. A distinct line elf cleavage imay then be drawn ibetween the liberals on- one side and 'till© (Radicals on the other. o.r, it may happen that there will be three 'distinct parties iln the House.
