THE HANLEY SEAT

LIBERAL ACTION CRITICISED,

(Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.)

LONDON, July 6. Speaking at Derby, Mr Ramsay Maedonald, Leader of the Labour Party, stated that there was never a more disreputable action than the Liberals claiming the Hanley seat. Tlie Labour Pary had paid organising officials, whom the Liberals were no\y. using. He believed that the action of the Liberals would cause a split in their Party,

(T'r.e Hanley seat had been represented by Mr Enoch Edwards, the President of the Miners' Federation of Great Britain, since 1906, and the Labour Partv claim that the" entieloci to niii a candidate of their own for the seat, and that they should not be opposed by the Liberals. It is thought that the action of the Liberals will cause the Labourites to contest many Liberal seats, and thus produce a split, which will favour the Conservatives.)
