LONDON WOOL SALES
A STRONG OPENING

LONDON, July 2
The wool sales have opened. The market is strong, at from par to a 10 per cent advance.
Messrs James Macintosh and Co. report having received the following cable from their London agents under date of the 2nd July, 1912 :
"Wool Sales: —Price for coarse advanced from par to 2;} per cent.; for medium, 5 per cent.; and for fine, 1\ per cent."
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The New Zeahnd Department of Agriculture, Commerce, and Tourists has receiver] the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London, dated July 2, 1912. regarding the opening of the third series of the colonial wool sales:—"The wool sales have commenced. Despite the strike a full catalogue has been shown to-day. There is a large attendance of Home, Continental, and several American buyers. Competition is very animated, and prospects are favourable. Merino wool Jd per lb, medium crossbreds rid nor lb higher than the closing rates of last sale. 152,000 bales of New Zealand wools are catalogued. The estimated value of NewZealand wools at the close of the second series of colonial wool sales in London on May 4th, 1912, were as follows : —Superior merino, Is to Is per lb ; medium, frjd to llicl: inferior, 7-J-d to Del; fine crossbreds, all grades, lid to Is medium crossbreds, BJd to 11(1; coarse cre-Sfbreda, 7sd to 10$ d. ..... ■ ,v«r
