A SHADOW OF EVICTION
HANGING OVER THE GOVER-NOR-GENERAL.
(Received July 3, 9.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 3
At the Lord Mayor's dinner, Lord Denman. the Governor-General, referring to the State Government's intention to appropriate the Governor's residence, said the shadow of eviction was hanging over his head. He likened himself to the first ocennants of the Garden of Eden, or to Naboth dispossessed of his vineyard. Personally, he added, he did not care where lie lived, but he bad to take into consideration the prestige of the Governor-General, and he took the stand that there should be an official residence sufficient for the Governor-General and capable of maintaining a large establishment. Tf that was not conceded, his ability to reside in Sydney must came to an end.
