AN AIRSHIP EXPLODES

THE OCCUPANTS KILLED,

ATLANTIC CITY (N.J.), July 2. The big dirigible Akron, containing Melvin. Vaniman, his brother (Calvin Vaniman), and three others, exploded when at an altitude of a thousand feet.

All were instantly killed in the presence of three thousand spectators. The airship burst into flames and fell like a plummet. The bodies being entangled in the wreckage fell into the sea. The airship was intended for a trans-Atlantic flight.
