A SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE

PROVISION FOR FLEET CONSTRUCTION.

MELBOURNE, July 1

The Federal Revenue for the year just ended was £20,634,605, which 15 £1,019,605 in excess of the estimate. The expenditure, including provision for subsequent years in respect to old age pensions, and . fleet eostruction £14,710,182 (which is £1,172,432 above the estimate) leaves £5,824,422 (or £'48,172 ahove the estimate) for return to the State Treasurers. The Customs and Excise yielded £14,711.440, and Post Offices £3,911,280, hot h being well above the estimate. The land tax produced £1,366.353, which is £64,000 under the estimate. Of the £1,515,000 set aside for fleet construction., oifliv £1,108.212 was expended. This was duo to the strike In England. The amount to the credit of the old age pensions and fleet-construc-tion fund icreased this year bv £326,966, making the total £2,']64.141, which resprese.nts the accumulated Federal surplus.
