lit was only the dtlku< day that ; we remarked upon the extraordinary frankness with which the 'Jfow Zealand Times— the erstwhile official mouthpiece of Li'iberailism —criticised the Mackenzie Government. Now we find the Dunedin Star, another liberal organ, .breaking away from the fold. In. its issue of Tuesday it had the following in its leading columns: — "Parliamenjt will he meeting in three: weeks' time, and Ministers should he' epemdimg their leisure, if leisure they have, in their ~ -offices, ini Cabinet, and (if the phrase be not 'too humorous as regards politics) in quiet thought. 'lnlstead of which they are running about the .country in despeiv ate mood, as it seems, -raking up old cciitrovcirsi-os, and -trying to raise factitious fesuias for'fhe; consideration of the Parliament ,."[ . which they have yet to face for the first (time." What has gone wrong with .these "Liberal" journals that they should become so heastly frank just on the eve of the assembling of Parliament ? ■Are coming evenlfcs casting their shadows before ?
