NATIONAL DAIRY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL REPORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. The annual report of the National Dairy Association states that there have fceen twenty-six new factories (eight (butter and sixteen cheese) registered during tire year. 'Reference was made to /the .bad effects of the severe weather at the opening of the season, wliioh proved disastrous to dairy herds in many parts. The Jiuilk supply was diminished up to 30th December to such an extent.that the export to London i&liowed a considerable shrinkage. The total export to all countries up to 30th April has increased, but the development does not show the expansion that oould be reasonably ! expected.
Looking iback over a period of years, the report states, it is possible to make an interesting comparison. In 1902, New Zealand exported to the United .Kingdom 8295 tons of butter; in 1911 the quantity had risen to 15,852 tons, an increase of 91 per cent.; in 1902 cheese was exported to the extent of 2710 tons, and in 1911 it had developsd.to 20,2-56 tonsj, equal; to aibout 618 ipcr 'cent, increase. There is..no good .reason why in the next few years tliD progress of the period-' mentioned should not be exceeded. Re-, ferring to the future, the report states that from a statistical and commercial: standpoint it appears that the demand will ibe good, a*h:d fair prices realised. It must not, however, be .necessarily assumed that the record .prices of 1911-12 .wiLI ibe maintained. The outlook imay ibe regarded as promising to the dairy fatfnier tfor some time to come.
