PROTEST FROM NAPIER. (By Telegraph — Press Association.) NAPIER,, Yesterday. A special meeting of the Chamber ctf Commerce was held yestsirday to protest against the 'movement to divert the Napier-Wellington express front the Mianawaitu-lme 'back to Wairarapa'. , 4 ■ tin. the course of discussiom, it was pointed l out that while Napier-people had been agitating for the "speeding up" of the .trains with a view to cutting down the time occupied on the journey between' Napier and Wellington, the proposed diversion would mean exfcanding the time from 9 hours 32 minutes to 10 hours 50 minutes. A .deputation wais appointed to interview the Hon. Mr Myers to-mor-row, and .emphatically protect' against the proposal. In conniption witin the above message, the following wire was sent yesterday .morning by the secretary the Master ton Chamber of Commerce to - tt'he Mihister-cf Railways:—". "Masterton., Chamber of Comun-erce /strongly urge you to adhere to your... intention .to bring back H-awke's Bay traffic to its natural .channel, namely, ; through tllie Wairarapa. This intention of you lis as you know means economy to the Department and better'railway faoilitke to Waira.ra.pa residents.—(Signed) J. C. BODDINGTON, .Secretary. The secretary of the Gliamibeir of Comimerce .received tflie following reply yesterday afternoon : "J. C. Boddington, Masterton Chamber cif Commerce. In reply to your telegram, the whole question is now being considered, and I will announce my decision in a few days.— A. M. "MYEiRS."
