We we're told what a. boon it had teen to those upon the land, and how it. came to the .rescue of settlers when all other avenues were dosed. At tihs .time, we took exception to the assurances given in this loonnection, aaid quoted /the 'inember for Masterton to show that wlien mlou.ey_w.as most required it was not obtainable. It now appears as if there (is to be a repetition of the experience of 1907, for a. settler has received the following .communication Ifrom. the Department:— : "Dear Sir, — •I Slave to acknowledge receipt of your letter, a"nd in reply to inform you that the Department is toot accepting applications for suima exceeding £SOO, and ie not lending at all to repay mortgages on freehold propertiels."
