AMUSEMENTS

THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. The Foresters' Mall was packed 'with an enthusiastic audience to witness the first" presentation by Messrs Thompson and P!ayae of a splendid dramatisation of Rider Haggard's famous novel "She." Only too often a big conception, a marvellous production of the c-iuematograpMJc 'art, is spoiled to some extent by the very incongruity ci the artists representing perhaps 1 . well-imown characters. •No such blemish mars the Wonderful '"She" picture which was presented •at the Foresters' Jtl ! all last night. "iShe" is a graceful, beautiful charac'ter, well sustained by a graceful act■rests, whose personality bears out to the life the .serpent-like proclivities of the "She" conceived by Rider Haggard. Using all her blandishtoents, she induces the young priest 'to leave his sacred duties, only to •kill him later in- fiendish selfishness •and lust c'f love and power. We see him lying in hiis tomib of the centuries, during which "She" remains ever young and beautiful ,by virtue of the rejuvenating flames in her cavern 'retreat. 'After many centuries we see the Scene of the vcAr for revenge baling fulfilled by the descendants of the murdered priest. JNot only is the leading character sustained by a p?rfectly appropriate actress, but the whole of the people in this big cast toe, without exception, absolutely Imoulded to suit tho true rendition of 'the novelist's work. The young •priest'is part is taken by a young actor who recalls very vividly Julius /Knight in his (pailmiest lays. "She" lis a picture n'oc to he missed. Supporting the "stai"' attraction was a programme of pictures which delight-, ed the audience., tairid wibich included the following:— The Hack Chasm (a particularly fine Viitagraph Indian drama), Tilly 'is Lover (a screamingA.B. .comedy), The Little Widow (one; of the besifr-idramas the SeTig Ompatay has produced),, 'Hie Bully of Bingo (Gulch (a rollicking S'elig■.dr2ma),Jsrotico Billy's Adventure (an Eesanay nmsterpiece), &c<cr.,es in Zara, .Turtle jFishing Vdufitrial), Auotraliaii and {English Gazettes, and 'A/to as Beor•keeper (a very funny ,o.om:e).
