At the meeting of. the Master ton; Chamber of Commerce yesterday, a corcimunication 1 was received from the Palmar.ston North Chamber of Commerce, inviting the cooperation; of this Chamißer in an 'expression of approval of the attitude of the Minister of Delfence on the defence question.. .- Mr G. C. Sunwnerell moved, "That, this Ohaimiber cordially approves of the defence policy as at present in operation in New Zealand, and df the able manrner in which it is being, administered, and also desdrra to express its appreciation of the firm, attitude shown by the Hon. the Minister for Defence in his declared intention" of •enforcing the law relating to the compulsory provisions of the Act; and the Ghamlber suggests that facrliities should be offered to enable that large body of retired "Volunteers and loyal citizens (who do nob come within the immediate scope of .the Act) applying themselves to .voluntary defence activities." Mr Daniel stated that he was very, much in favour, of the defence system. He had visited the Drill Hal "in Masterton, and was pleased to see the work which was being done. He suggested that other business meri should do likewise. The motion was carried unanimously,.
