SALE OF WORK

IN AID OF DR BARNARDO'Sj HOMES. A sale of work was-Mid.in St. Matthew's Schoolroom, Ma-sterton, on Saturday afternoon and evening last,' in aid of the funds of Dr Barnardo's Homes. A number of children, headr ed by Miss Joyce Dyer, were responsible* for the function, and had arranged a series of stalls, which were artistically decorated and filled with sweets, cakes, various samples of fancy work, produce, etc. The different stalls were presided over by Mesdames Dyer, L. Moore, and Misses Woolfe, La Roche, and Woon, and were under the charge of the follow- 5 ing children:— Sweets stall, Misses Muriel La Roche, Catherine Dyer and Olive Hughan; Cake stalls, Misses Mackersey and Elsie Hubbard; Plain and fancy -work stall, Misses Nancy Lee, Phyllis Hubbard and 3essieWaddington ; Doll stall, Misses Daisy Hubbard, Nellie Kendall, Eila Ewart, M. Waddington; Bran tub, Misses Mar-' jorie Graham and Joyce Dwyer ; flower' stall, Misses E. Stewart, Marie Cooper and Erma Cooper. Mrs D. M. Graham and Miss Payton were in charge of a well-arranged produce stall, while daintily arranged afternoon tea tables were presided over by Misses Holmwood and W. Moore. A number of interesting competitions were held during the afternoon and evening, and several side-shows were well patronised, while a moving picture entertainment, operated by Masters Varnham and Johnson, was much enjoyed by those who witnessed it. l'he thanks of the promoters of the entertainment are especially due to Masters Varnham and Johnson, who not only" ' gave a most appreciated picture show, but gave valuable assistance in carrying out the function. The success of the sale of work was no doubt greatly, due to the splendid response by the public in contributing to the stalls. Many purchasers of goods returned them to the stalls for re-sale for the ftood of the cause. The net proceeds amounted to , £2o, with possibly a little more to come in.
