MR HAROLD BEAUCHAMP.
It would appear, from the Otago Daily Times, that Mr Harold Beauchamp did not retire from tlie directorate of the Bank of New Zealand at his own wish. Commenting upon this fact, tho Christchureh. Press sa3 r s:— "Mr Beauchamp lias been not only a director of the bank for several years, but its chairman, and has acquitted himself well in that position. Ho had, however, the courage and the honesty on several occasions in reviewing the commerce of the Dominion, to make statements regarding tho want of confidence in the country, which he .believed' to be true, but which were not acceptable to the Government. Tn the absence of any other satisfactory explanation," it is naturally believed that Mr Beauchamp lias (been punished by dismissal for daring to urge the need of caution and economy in the public service as well as in the private business of. the country, Ministers evidently resenting what they took to be a reflection on their methods."
