THE "OLD FLAG."
The Prime Minister, on his way to Auckland, was greeted at one place with cheers for "The 'man who had kept the old flag flying." What flag is referred to ? Is it the leasehold flag or the freehold flag? Is it the flag of the man who said the public would never stand compulsory military training, or the flag of the man who introduced.. the reform, or ' the flag of the (Defence - Minister . who- is new weakening in his administration of the.Act? Is.it the flag, of the self-reliant policy, or the flag of the borrow and squander policy? The old flag! Why, the fabric is plastered over with so many emblems that it resembles a fence adorned by billposters, and it has been hauled up and down so often that it-is falling to pieces.— Christchurch Press.
