•It is satisfactory to note that the Masterton A. and P. Association is moving in the direction of instituting ploughing matches. Old residents of the district have pleasant recollections of the days when teams met together on the To Ore Ore farms, and of the dinners which followed the trials of skill with the plough. The ploughing match, in the early days, was an event of the year. Xot only did it inspire emulation iix * an important branch of agriculture,. but it served to improve the breed and care of horses. To attain this. object should be one of the special functions of A. and P. Associations, and •it is therefore pleasing to observe that these Associations are interesting themselves in the matter-
