To-day has been a busy one on the! Trentham range, as in addition to the completion, of the preliminary stage of the Championship 'match, the Champion Teams Match, the United Service Match, and an extra match at 1000 vard;s have been fired. It has also been a day of aggregates. The Bisley Aggregate,. which carries with it the Clarkson Cup, the King's fifty, and Service aggregate, having to be made up. Far more important to the majority of competitors was the varying positions of the leaders in. the < <> grogiato, ; . .. Proceedings opened with the Hawke's Bay match at 900 yards. Loveday, who was t'ieing with Atkinson in 'the Tead, out on 49 here, and shook off his opponent, who only mode 44. Masefield, Mtlroy »ad Banks were close in the ruunVug. In the match, Clark, of Ra'igit.ikei, got 1 +iie possible, despite a mirage, and four men just missed the PoMe. The Taranaki Match, at 1000 yds,
J! : _ the last in the King's series, was fired immediately afterwards, and 1 again the scores of the leading men were closely, watched. The light was flickering, and as' the youthful Loveday started in the first batch, thevs was a crowd at his board. The weight of the lead jvas evidently playing upon him, and he got 40, and the word immediately went round that the shooting was difficult, and all along the mound men broke up badly. Wood (Christchureh) planked on a 49, ami! soon after Roots, the 191.1 champion, planked on 50, but it was too'i late to be any good to him except to raise him:a few places in the aggregate. Atkinson only got 36. which spoilt his chance. Masefiea got 47, ..which places -him, next to L'oveday, but with a gap of 6 points, Guy .(Kaponga) put on. 49, but it did not. d\£tvtrb_ the: aggregate, which left Loveday with a 10 to. 1 chance for the Belt, for it is doubtful if any man in New Zealand can give him six points in 10 points at 1000 yards. In the afternoon the Champion Teams Match was fired. Twenty-two teams started, but OAving to a misunderstanding as to the time limit at 300 yards, by which they lost five shots, the New Plymouth team retired. Other teams suffered severely also, losing up to 5 shots. The shooting was very good, victory restin;); with the. Oviaki team, who put ;up 484, and therefore win the handsome District Challenge Shield. The highest individual score was that of Chirnside -(Karon), who put tip J.OI, while Duth-ie (Christchureh) and Laking (Blenheim) both secured the'eovteed century. ' The Rifle Clubs' Championship for a team of five men was won by the Christchureh Rifle team. . A. match for teams of 20 men. representing Rifle Clubs and Territorials, at 300, 500 and (3(10 yards, was fired after the Teams Match, and was concluded in darkness. The Territoriaus won by 34 points, and arc the holders of the DaAvson Shield for a vear. The scores were: Territorials, 171.5; R-ifle Chubs, 1681. HICHEST AGGREGATES. The following are the twelve highest aggregates for the Service Championship to be fired to-morrow: — Simmonds (Waitohi) 193.
