MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting was held on Saturday, the' 24th inst. Present, — Crs. .0. Churchill Jackson (chairman), C. Seymour, L. P• Larson and R. Judd. A letter was received from the Under Secretary for Public Works, advising that grants for road works were liable to lapse unless payment is applied before the loth of March. The secretary to the Eketaliuna Chamber of Commerce forwarded- a copy of letter addressed to the Minister of Public Works, • supporting the Council's application for further, grant of £2OO to complete the metal-. ling of Mangaoronga Road.

From Mr Sykes, 'M.P., forwarding copy of Local Government .Bill, and stating that he had handed the Council's application ifor above-mentioned .grant, to the proper authority, i The secretary to - the -Hospital Board forwarded a circular requesting that a delegate be appointed to attend a meeting to be held to consider best way of recognising Mr, Buchanan's gift of Home for Incurables.— The chairman was appointed to represent the Council at such meeting'. Mr C. Burton wrote requesting permission to lay a pipe across Mount • Bruce Boad— Cr Seymour was authorised to deal with this matter.; . Cr Perry moved the resolution of which he had given notice, declaring foxglove a noxious weed in this County- • ! '

The Clerk was authorised to-, take legal proceedings to enforce payment of all outstanding rates.

Air J. IE. Deadman attended the .meeting, pointing out that a sharp point on Jackson's Road was dangerous to traffic, and required cutting 'hack.— It was admitted that this would be a desirable improvement, and the chairman will get the necessary work done. It was, after some discussion, resolved to raise the wage for ordinary labour to 8s 6d per day. It was decided to defer, the metal patching 011 the road, and push 011 with the metalling in connection with road grants. . ■ The footpath between the Muddy Bridge and Mauriceville railway station will be repaired. Instructions were g'ven to order ironbark stringers to repair bridge 011 Dreyer's Rock road.

Accounts amounting to £195 9s 2d were passed for payment.
