The Rev. A. Hodge, who recently left Masterton to take up tho appointment of tile Napier Congregational Church, was tendered a welcome social there onTuesday night. "The resignation is announced of the. Hon. Sir Edward Dal ton Shea, who was for twenty-five years President of the Legislative Council of Newfoundland, and for fifty-seven years a member of tlie Upper House. Mr H. H. Eraser, of Tiinaru, and one of the leading organisers of tho Now Zealand Athletic and Caledonian Societies, was a. visitor to Masterton yesterday. Mr N. Corbett, of the Wellington branch of the T. and G. Mutual Lifo Assurance Co., visited Masterton yesterday. Mns G&with, of Masterton, with her daughters and Mr C. Gawith, intend leaving shortly on a visit to lue Old (■our-try. The art work done by Mr [i. S. Wardell, formerly president of the Academy of At is, was referred to i'< mcxt npprecative terms by the pre-sideivt o'" the Arto Club on Wcdn.Ci'.'-iy evening. Mr Wa.rdo.ll was elected a vicepresident of the club when Mr -Raymond, the retiring president of tho ctiib said it was to be regretted that Mr Wardell. who had done so much for art in Wellington, was no longer attached to the academy in an official position. His election as vice-president of the club mrigiht lead to his again taking up active -work in art. l)r Hay also spoke in most complimentary terms of Mr WardeH's activities in the world of >a.rt.. Miss Jessie Angus, who sustained injuries through a fall at the Masterton show, is making satisfactory progro&s towards recovery.
