ABRAHAM AND WILLIAMS' REPORT.

Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report having held the first day of their Ram Fair at Masterton yesterday. The sale was held on'the Mastertcn showgrounds, under the auspices of the A. and P. . Association, when a heavy catalogue' was submitted to a record .attendance of the public, buyers being present from ; all parts . The sale opened with flock Shropshires and Leicesters, for which there was very little demand, but all the sheep were disposed of, mostly by private treaty. The flock IRcmneys followed, and, notwithstanding the apprehensions of breeders for a dull time in sympathy with other centres, the demand experienced was undoubtedly good, . but. in a -number-of cases breeders had to reduce their prices on recent years, although good sheep sold readily with animated competition. Theßiddiford sheep was the popular one of the. day, the whole entry comprising 120 being disposed of at auction at most, satisfactory prices. Mr E. V. Riddi- ' ford's-made the satisfactory average of £6 16s for the whole of his seventy sheep. Mr D. H. S. Riddiford's made £6 14s for 20, £5 5s for 10, and £1 4s for-20 of the tail end. Mr Wm. Perry, of Penrose, sold 10 at an average of £5 12s; Mr P. .Mungavin 3 at. £6 6s; Mr G. R. Sykes 9 at ah average of £5 Ms; Mr\J. McLeod, V\ hakapuni, 20 at an average of gns; Mr J. C. McKi|loi>,lo at £4 4s" 1 ; Mr C. B. Pharazyn 20;af £3 3s;' Tawaha Estate 10 After lunch the sheep entered bv the Romney Marsh Breeders' Association were offered, which wjis held for the first time as an experiment, and although it cannot be recorded as an unqualified success owing to the large number ofsceond class studs entered, some exceptionally good orices were obtained, notably those offered on behalf of Mr Ernest Short, who secured both first and second prize for the competition held on the.'grounds for the best one and two-shear sheep. Mr A. McKenzie, of Featherston, as agent, purchased "Record Breaker 50th" at the sensational price of 200 guineas, after very keen competition. Ihis is a record price for the Dominion. Messrs Rddford and Co. purchased a one-shear "Record E 4th" at 160 guneas. Two other Record' sheep were purchased by Mr WUam Bell, Blenheim, and Mr'J. C. Field, Gisborne, at 70 and 35 guineas resl ipectively. Great applause and enthusiasm was displayed form the audience assembled as the sheep were knocked down at such handsome prices.- Mr Wmi. Perry, of Penrose, obtained 34, 21 and 20gns for one-shear sheep of his own breeding. Other sales of stud rams sold in the usual catalogue were made as under:— On behalf of Mr E. V. Rdiford, one sheep to Mr Holmes Warren at 37 guineas, one to the same buyer at 13 and one to Mr George Moore at 12 guineas. On behalf of Mr D. H. S. ißiddiford, one to Mr William Perry at 37gns, and one to Mr M. Murphy at 20gns. On behalf Mr George Sykes, one to Mr M. Murphy at 10 guineas. On behalf of Mr J.'H. Tatham, one at 7 1 gns, and three at Signs. One on behalf of Mr P. Mungavin to Mr E. Eglinton at 10 guineas. The sale will be continued tomorrow with stud and flock Lincolns and Southdowns.
