BRISBANE STRIKE.
FIGHT TO THE BITTER END, BUSINESS BEING RESUMED. Received This Morning, 12.15 o'clock;, BRISBANE, February 18. A large gathering was held in the Trades Ball on Saturday. My Coyne, President, of the Strike Committee, in an;-interview, said the Employers' Federation having rudelj; spurned the proposals for a .enoe, there w«s nothing; for rfcV bixb of .the •trouble. If the inkers'wanted; the strike called off; they would have to get some one else to •do it, and appoint a new Strike Committee. They had the necessary 'funds behind them, and now that the Sydney and Newcastle lumpers and: miners were with them, while the men. were prepared to stand firm they could fight on to the bitter end. In reply to, a question as to when a climax was likely, Mr Coyne said, "When the Employers/' Federation approaches the Committee with a view to a settlement." The Musicians' Union has decided to resume forthwith. The Master Builders propose to resume to-morrow. Many compositors have.returned to work, and the' papers are publishing larger issues. The North German steamer Prina Waldemar has arrived. Her cargo was discharged by non-unionists, assisted by the crew, under police protection. No attempt was made at interference. The Wharf Labourers and Coal Lumpers' Union apparently do not consider themselves bound by the recent decision of the Transport Workers' Federation, as they have telegraphed to the Brisbane Strike Com mittee that they will not work cargo handled by non-unionists in Queensland.
