"INDEPENDENT," IS IT?
The opening of Parliament yesterday, though of a purely formal character, was not without its touch of comedy. Mr L. M. Isitt, the remarkable political production of Ohristchurch, whose fierce, denunciation of the Opposition and flowery tributes to the Government made him a laughingstock in the last session of Parliament, had the hardihood to announce himself an "Independent," and to congratulate the Speaker as such. The Press Association agent says thai the announcement was received -with "laughter." And well it might have been. "Derision" -would probably have been a more fitting word, however. Mr Isift's ideas of what constitutes "independence" are so hewilderingly obscure, that it were almost- impossible to define them. If he is "independent," then Sir Joseph may well ask, "Where are my followers'?"
