CALIFORNIAN THISTLE.
The Hon. T. Mackenzie claims to have made a discovery of interest to the farmer. He wishes it widely known that he has converted Califotniau thistle into, ensilage. Well, that, is very interesting in its way. But possibly the Minister will be surprised to learn that Californian thistle, and other forms of thistle, to say notihinig "of docks and weeds generally, have been utilised for silo purposes in Victoria and other countries for nearly half a century. It is true that the New Zealand farmer has been slow to appreciate the value of ensilage as a fodder. Still, we would not advise him to depend upon this alone for his winter feed, much less 'to cultivate California!) thistle for ensilage purposes. The Mimst:>r would bo conferring a boon upon the country if he would tell farmers just 'how to eradicate the Californiau thistle.
