HISTORY, ETC.
The University Senate has been discussing .the question of an improve- ; ment in the tending of history in our higher educational institutions. Nobody who has passed the matriculation .standard can fail to recognise how sadly deficient is the instruction in histtary given in. secondary schools. The University graduate is taught (practically nothing of medern history, with the resrult that he lacks the very elements which' should enable him to correctly interpret the trend of modern thought. But history is not the only subject neglected. The writing and spelling of some of our highly-taught children is simply villainous, whilst their iion iB anything but perfect. There is something radically wrong with the whole structure of our education .system.
