WIDOWS' PENSIONS.
As allowing how anomalous and absurd is some of the legislation which is rushed on to the Statute Book in New Zealand in the name oT "humanity," it may he mentioned that, under the Widows' Pensions Act a widow is- not entitled to a pension if her child, or children, were not born an the Dominion. The result of this provision is that a widow who has lived in the Dominion all her life and been married here, has no claim upon the fund if her child happens to have been, born Avhile she was on a visit to Australia, or England, or other country. Why such a ridiculous clause should have been inserted in the Act without qualification, is difficult to understand.
