FERRO-CONCRETE BRIDGES.

The ferro-concrete bridge over the Ruamahanga river, which was officially opened yesterday, marks an epoch in the way of bridge-building in this- part of the Dominion. The 'bridge was constructed from plans prepared by Mi- u. Laing-Meason, and it is ,said to combine the qualities of strength and durability, besides being comparatively cheap. * The days of the wooden truss bridge for our large and treacherous rivers is now ■past. This is due as much to the difficulty in procuring hardwood timbers as to the advance of engineering science. Mr Laing-Meason and the Eeathorston Coiuity Council are to be congratulated upon the apparent success which have attended their undertaking.
