The Federal Sugar Commission ic likely to be tine costliest enquiry yet undertaken by the Commonwealth. The members are receiving substantial snmi,s> in fees anicl salaries. In the form of a return, a statement., of tihe allowances to members' was laid before the Commonwealth' Hotuse of Representaitives on December . 20th. Mir 1 Tnuor said the president was receiving a- salary at the rate of £3OOO a year, with travelling expenses of £3 3s a> day while absent from his l pdfaice of domicile. Members were getting £3 3s a day, and 2os travefliIKiug expenses, and the secretary to the Cbmimissifcfri' has usual salary of £4OO a year and travelling expenses of 15s a; day when, absent from Victoria,. In addition., the President was. allowed a private secretary at £•250 a year, with 12s 6d a diay travel ling expenses, and aiffi trailn, siticainer, and cab fares' incurred in connection with the business of the ComimßssSon) were being paid by the Government.
