LAND SETTLEMENT.
The Crown. Lands Department is not doing much in- the direction, of opening up the unoccupied Lands in. the ; Auckland di'sitrict at present (soyis the Herald). Last month only 13 sections 1 , comprising a. little over 7000 acres of .second and third-class land, wfl'ie thrown, openv for selection, and. these were offered under the renewable lea we system. During the present mouth only one section', contouring 491 acres, in the Rotorua district, is being thrown open- for competition, while for next month the total area, that will be offered will be some 5000 acres, part of the Hauraki Plains, which will be submitted in 21 sections under the occupation' with right of purchase system.
