Dr. and Mrs Sahnond, of Dunedin, celebrated their golden wedding on Christmas Day.
The death is announced of a wellknown resident of Invercargill, in tiho person of Mr Richard Allen. The deceased was an accountant.
Inspector Strauclian,. of the Marlborough Education Board, was a visiter to Masterton yesterday.
IMr Robert Lee, late managing director of tlhe Kaitangata Coal Company, and a. director of the Now Zealand Express Company and other concerns, died at his residence in the Wakatipu district on Saturday morning.
Tlhe engagement is announced of Misis Kathleen Millar, only daughter of the Hon. J. A. Millar, to Mr Norman McLean, youngest son of MiNeil McLean, one of tflie contractors for the Otira tunnel.
The death is announced from Wanganui of Mrs Leonora Evelyn Broad, reliet of the late Mr Charles Broad, for many years Resident Magistrate at Greymouth. Hiis Grace Archbishop Redwood, with a party of visiting priests, and accompanied by the Very Rev. Dean MeKenna, was a visitor to the Caledonian Sports in Masterton yesterday. Dr. Newman, M.P., and Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P.. were among the visitors to the Tauherenikau races Mr Buchanan was also present at the Caledonian Sports in Masterton yesterday morning. The friends of Mr C. A. Pownall, solicitor, of Masterton, will regret to hear that he has been confined to his hionse for several days with, sickness. Enquiries made last night-, however, showed that he was recovering.
.Mr and Mrs W. H. Braggins, of Masterton, are leaving this morning for Hamilton, where their future home will be.
