Cotter stuck up Heame with five balls in one over. Hearne brought up 150 in 149 minutes. At 154 Whitty relieved Cotter, and Armstrong relieved Hordern. Gunn, who was half an hour in reaching double-figures, missed in playing back and got'his leg in front. KeMeway relieved Whitty. Hearne carried England's score ahead of Australia's by pulling Hordern for tro amid cheers. Minnett relieved' Ivelleway. On resuming after tea Cotter and Whitty took up the bowling. Mead was well caught in the slips off Whitty \s first ball. Foster began nicely by back-cut-ting Cotter for a singlo and driving one for two soundly. Hearne was nicely caught off Cotter by Darter at short stop. Dougllas scored a single, then Foster was caught at covet'. Woolley cleverly pulled Cotter to the boundary. The batting was bright, but the scoring was slow on account of good fielding. At 242 Ke'llewtay' relieved. Cotter, and iHortlern replaced Whitby. Woolley, confidently jumping in to meet Hordern, hoisted him to t'he near on l>oundary, and Ransford made a good catoh. Smith was in nearly ten minutes before scoring. Dbuglas was cautious, and the crowd roared wlien Hordern bowled him wiiitlh a beauty. Barnes got a great reception, but lie had a short stay. Hordern's figures had changed from 0 for 61 to 3 for 66.
