SWIMMING SEASON
OPENED IN MASTERTON,
The swimming season was opened, in Masterton yesterday afternoon by the Masterton Amateur Swimming Club, when three races (the "Hogg, ' "Sykcs," and "Herbert," handicaps) were contested. • The weather was fine through windy, and the water was rather cold for fast swimming. A good number of swimmers took pari and the events were closely watched hv a. small crowd of spectators. The results are as Follow "Hogg" handicap, 50 .yards.—M. Iggulden, 4secs, 1; A. Miller, scr, 2; F. Phillips, scr, 3; F. Jones, ssecs, 4. Eight started. "Sykcs" handicap, 100, yds.—.T. Winchester, sell, 1; A. Miller, sell, 2; R. Person, scr, 3. Only five started. Time, 91, sees. "Herbert" handicap. 75yds breast stroke. —W. Ferguson, scr., 1 ; F. Jones, 2. Four stai ters. Time, U sees.
