AN INTERESTING INCIDENT
CONCERNING THE BUTTER RING. Mr 0. W. Tanner, a Government supporter, in the course of an ad•Jdre&s at Lower Taueru, referring to (the necessity of farmers looking af(ter tiheir own interests, mentioned' an interesting incident. He said that Bie was once on a steamer going to England, and part of the cargo was imposed of five or six thousand tons •tof butter and cheese. One of -the passengers was a representative of r la_ large butter-buying, ring in LonHon, and he had been out to the Pominion arranging consignments of produce to his peoplle, land was shepherding it Homie. On being asked ibow (the price of butter would go that season, he had stated that prices would be low, as the buyers had lost money (the previous season, and intended to recoup themselves' by giving a low price that coming season. ''Some time aifter wards," said Mr Tanner, "I met another business rgentleman, and mentioned that conversation, and my friend stated j 1 that the little .scheme of the buyers j did not work, as there being an unexpected Continental shortage,prices had gone up in spite of the butter r2ng."
