CARTERTON.
Professor Mills, of Milwaukee, U.S.A., is shortly to give an address in Carterton on "Alcoholic Degeneracy". The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Horticultural and Industrial Society was held at Carterton on Saturday, Mr A. Booth president, in the chair. Officers as follow were elected: —Patron, Mr W. 0. Buchanan, M.P.; President, Mr A. Booth; VicePresidents, Messrs W. Howard Booth, E. Eagle, junr., J. Brown, H. R. Bunny, J. G. Oates, R. G. Welch; ccomjmittee, Messrs A. N. Burns, J. M. Nicholls, J. Harp, J. Hodder, W. ibbott, J. M. Beeehey, C. Goodin, E. Goodin, A.'R. Hadfield, A. King, J. Snell, W. H. Booth and C. Tunnioliffe; ladies committee, Mesdames Abbott, Beard, Cole, E. Eagle, junr., C. Goodin, Nicolson, Rains, Hadfield,. King, Telford, Deller, Phillips, Wolters, Rathbone, Haynes, W. H. Booth, Misses E. Booth, Sayer, and Burnett; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Downard; auditor, Mr J. Monerieff. Several minor details were attended to, and at a later meeting it was decided to meet a fortnight after .the show to draw up a programmer for a show in February. On the bowling green on Saturday afternoon, in the semi-final of the singles tournament,, which was- left unfinished last season, H. Nielson beat H. Hall after a very interesting and close game. A collection taken up by the Carterton Brass Band at a programme of music in High Street on Saturday evening realised £3 2s lOd.
