A fruit growers' conference last owning resolved: "That the fruit-' growers' associations of the Donrin:>n federate and that tihe Hawke's Bay executive continue to acre as the Federation executive. Other .resolutions were that the Government again be urged to inaugurate a system of free hooking ; that in view of tine near depletion of isuitab'ie wood the Government ihe asked to infant <wa»te Crown lanxte. by means of prison labour ;vjitili trees siuitahle for fruit 'cases and 'butter boxes; that the Govern-' ment be urged to consider the question of restricting', instead of enforcing, tihe devastation of forests in contention .with land settlement to oanseirve the' timber supplies. A motion an favour of Government ■assistance for cool stores at centres of production, the association's paying interest .and .sinking funds, was carried; as was ateo. a .motion lihat the Gove-tnimenrt. be ranged to (rigidly enforce the law re diseased trees' being s&nt out from nurseries.
