STEAMER LAID UP
CREW OF THIRTY PAID OFF.

SYDNEY, October 31
As a result of the strike the steamer Cytle is laid up. The crew of 30 has been paid off.
STEVEDORING PROPOSAL WITHDRAWN.
MEETING OF THE MEN.

SYDNEY, October 31. The' Hon. Mr Carmichael.has withdrawn the stevedoring, proposal.
A special meeting of wharf labourers! will be held to-morrow night to discuss the advice, given by the Melbourne conference to resume work.
The crow of the steamer Moruya lias been paid off. The .permanent hands and clerks are doing good work in shifting the oargo of some of the vessels. In discharging they received quantities of general loading as well as perishables.
