BOXING

TOURNEY AT CAR'iTSRTON

A boxing tournament was held at Carterton last evening under the, auspices of the Carterton Centre of the Wairarapa Boxing Association. There was a, large attendance, and inuch ; interest was manifested in the various events. -

Mr Sampson, of Wellington, acted as referee. The results were as follow:

Feather-weights. Olsen. (Masterton) defeated E. Miller in three rounds. L. Jury defeated A. Cadwallader. G. Barr (Masterton) beat G. Ireland.

Welter-weights.—P. Reid beat F. M'Kinnon. in three rounds. V. Cadwallader defeated T. McLachlan in three rounds. Richie (lOst 41b) beat V. Billington (lOst 61b) in four rounds. Tli3 latter was one of /the most exciting bouts ever seen in the Wairarapa.

voice, which was heard to great advantage in "I stand at your threshold. " (Mr W. Iggulden made an. iileai "Sqnire Bantum," the solo, "Here's to the' Man" suiting his voice admirably. Mr G. Sutton made hi? debut as "Tuppeit," acquitting himisell creditably. Mr J; Gray as the country yokel, "Tom Strut," also give a splendid interpretation. The fun of the piece centred round "Lmv cher,' and Mr Harry Hall was qu'tc in his element. His; acting was bright and witty, and his flow of witticisms did not permit of a moment of monotony. All the choruses were excellently rendered, and special mention should be made of ' lire Opening Chorus," "Lads and Lasses," "The Hunting Ohonus," and "Vision* Bright." The dances, which were a feature of the production, were both daincy ana bright and graceful, and la! praise is due to the instructress, Alise \ . The orchestra helped materially w> male•? th- production the success it p:5-od. : Special mention should also be made cf the realism given, to the • hunting.scene by the-introduction of -the luunds on the stage by Mr Tas.
