NATIONAL PROVIDENT FUND.
The National Provident scheme, Wihioh came into operation last year with a flourish of trumpets, lias fallen as flat as a pancake. The intelligent public, for some reason or another, is fighting shy of the thing. Jt, cannot see the benefits in the same light as does the a.uthor of the scheme. Moreover, it is too busy paying house rent, and butchers' ,bills> and sundry other demands upon its restricted income, to find time for hazardous speculations. Meanwhile, it is a cold, biting frost.
