AMUSEMENTS
THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.
I The Foresters' Hall was crowded last evening, when the- new programme wa.s presented for the first time.. The list of films submitted Jntcluded several pictures of exceptional and distinct merit. The Australian Gazette (Pathe's) indkiSed pictures of the recent New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association's annual tournament, which was held at Wellington at the 'beginning of September. The English Pathe Gazette, recording the principal happenings of the Old World, occupied a place in the second half of an excellent programme. . A sporting study, "Capturing Crocodiles," was in Pathe Frere's. best colour work, and showed the native method of catching , these monsters by means of a strong hook and long line made of rattan. ' 'Silver Threads Amongst the Gold" was an exceptionally -well reproduced and cleverly arranged study which earned the unqualified approval of all beholders. One of the best comic films yet shown was entitled "A Clever Fraud." The fun of the really sensational story was fast and furious, ,the audience not having time to recover from one outburst of laughter before another was forced on them. The final scene was well and naturally worked out, and could not fail to move the most sedate, to laughter. Another good comic, "Dupin Amused" took the audience through a t most up-to-date Wonderland—over switchbacks, down water chutes, up •the jo-.i«g stairs, etc., were only incidents in on excellent round of'pure fun. "Her (Sacrifice," "A Farm Servant's. Romance,'' and ' 'The Broken Cross" were also excellent subjects. The programme will be repeated tonight and to-morrow evening.
