TINUI. The -winter dancing class that has been held (by the Misses Priest and Wilson . -u.s brought to a close lastFriday ovening .by the pupils entertaining tlheir tutors at a dance. The weather was fine, which enabled a very large crowd to be present, and the dancin groom was taxed to its utmost in con/sequence. The stage was* elaborately furnished as a "sit out" for chaperons and non-dancers, while the supper table* wetrp prettily decorated with clematis sprays' and spring flowers. The card-room was also made cosy, and many hardfought games were played by genitleirjen w.ho consider themselves past the\ light fantastic. During the evening Dr Moßae, on behalf of the pupils, presented Misses Priest and Wilson with a gold ibu-aeelct each, doing iso, paid a thigh tribute to theise' young ladies for the tuition given, and a 'so for their pluck in riding many miles in rough weather and ibad toads to attend fho classes, and the presentation was 'a token of esteeni and gratitude. Mr W. Dickens senr., in a neat speech, replied on Ibehau of (the two ladies. The duties of M.'sC. were capably carried wut hy (Messrs R. Perry, R. Fendall and A, Carter, and first-class music was supplied by Messrs F. MoKenzie (piano) land J. Ward (cornet.) MAURICEVILLE WEST. Heavy hailstorm® passed over here at intervals all day on Saturday. This seems to come each year just as the fruit is setting in the orchards, and consequently with -(heavy less .to orchardists.

The Featherston Town -Board hold n special .meeting on Wednesday evening, to consider the Town Hall heating question. .Prior to leaving the Feathenston Post Office staff on transfer to Christchurch, Mr Stephens was the (recipient of a handsome dressing case irom.his fellow employees, r To-day being St. Luke's Day, a special service is to be flield at the Greytown Anglican Church in the evening, when in addition, to a.large number of clergy, the ichoirs of the M'asterton, 'Carterton,' Featherston, and Martinborough Churches will, assist.
JMr .and Mrs R. c £ailoy and-family, of East Taratahi, are leaving the district _ this ,week '■■■ for. the North of .•Auckland.' For some years Mr Bailey has been in charge of Mr 'Bland 1 Rayner's. property at Eji'st.Taratahi, and is recognised' :as being one of •the most practical farm hands in the district. We wish him every success in the sunny North.
At a well-attended meeting held at Carterton oil Monday night, is was decided to form a Carterton Amateur Swimming Club. . Mr W. Howard Booth was elected Patron, and Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P., President. Mr L, J. Carmine was appointed honorary secretary pro. tem. About forty members were 'enrolled, and it was decided to open the season on Thursday, Novomber 2nd.
