A deaf and dumb giri, aged five years, named Eunice Costley, was knocked down by a tram and severely injured on the railway crossing at New Market this ajcternoon. She resides with her grandfather near the crossing, and had started to go on a visit to her aunt. She was crossing the line when the Kaipara train came along and she was knocked down by the engine and rendered unconscious. She was taken to the hospital, where it,was found that she was suffering from severe concussion of the brain. The brakes were applied when the child was first seen, but the distance was to short to enable the train to pull up. I
